One thread runs through all of it

Accounting is a people business wearing a spreadsheet costume. The numbers are the easy part. The hard part is the conversation where someone decides what to do next.

Every service here works on that conversation from a different angle. Improv trains the listening. Continuity planning removes the panic. Coaching gets the owner out of their own way. Fractional CFO work ties all of it back to the P&L.

Software can automate the busywork. It cannot replace the judgment your clients are actually paying for.

Four ways I work with teams

Every engagement starts with a conversation about what better would actually look like for your business.

Fractional CFO

For founder-led businesses that have outgrown bookkeeping but are not ready to hire a full-time CFO.

  • Monthly close review and reporting you can act on
  • Cash forecasting and runway visibility
  • Pricing and margin work
  • Board and lender ready packages

Business coaching

One-on-one work with firm owners and operators who know what needs to change and want someone in the room while they do it.

  • Goals that survive contact with the calendar
  • Capacity, pricing, and hiring decisions
  • An accountability cadence that holds

Improv for business

Workshops that train professionals to listen actively, think on their feet, and connect with clients and colleagues. Taught on site anywhere in the US, under the Outspoken Improv name, and qualified for CPE credit at national accounting conferences.

Plan Ahead: continuity planning

What happens to your business if you are suddenly not there? Plan Ahead is a guided workshop series that produces a complete business emergency plan: access, authority, instructions, and the people who need to know. Built for owners who have spent years on something too important to leave unprotected.

  • Who holds the keys, and how they get them
  • Authority to act, written down
  • Operating instructions your team can follow

The next cohort is not scheduled yet. Join the announcements and you will hear first.

Why a CPA swears by improv

I started studying improvisational theater in 2012 and watched it change my consulting practice. Not because it made me funnier. Because it made me a better listener.

Spire Consulting Services is my firm. The work has grown from accounting and systems into coaching, training, continuity planning, and software, because those turned out to be the same problem seen from different sides.

I speak fluent spreadsheet and fluent stage, and I know exactly how it feels to be the analytical person in the room being asked to play.

  • Certified Public Accountant, based in Portland, Oregon
  • Performing and studying improv since 2012
  • Teaches nationally: conference stages, offsites, and in-house sessions
